HP has officially entered into the world of gaming with the Omen 15 high performance notebook.

This release comes following the announcement HP would split into two companies, which are expected to revolve around corporate focused hardware and service operations, and consumer focused computer and printer business. This could be what HP needs to gradually regain its competitiveness.

The HP Omen 15 rivals those such as Alienware, but its also a direct competitor of all-purpose notebooks such as Lenovo’s Y50 and Acer’s V Nitro Black Edition.

Omen 15 will appeal to gamers with its 15.6 inch screen, 1080p resolution black design with red accents and weighing in at about 2kgs. It comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics card and Intel Core i7 quad core processor.

The computer has a customisable back-lit keyboard with six programmable function keys that are ‘optimised for accurate, fast keystrokes’.

JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman will be the primary retail launch partners, and the notebook will also be available to the channel.

It will be available in five different models. The processor will be the same for each, and all will have the GeForce GTX video card, but there will be different choices when it comes to configurations.

RAM comes in 8GB or 16GB and hard disk 256GB or 512GB. Those at the higher end will have 4GB of memory and 2GB at the lower end.

It will be available in Australasia this month at a starting price of $1,500.

There will also be a selection of Omen-branded accessories available. The X9000 gaming mouse and backpack in particular, the former with a RRP of $69.00 and the latter $89.00.
