“It's a pretty amazing building,” said Steve Jobs in June 2011, referring to Apple’s new spaceship headquarters.

“It's a little like a spaceship landed. It's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle…”

With Apple’s new campus set to be ready by 2016, Cupertino’s US$5 billion investment is set to be “the best office building in the world” - according to the late Apple co-founder.

As the site enters its final stages of developments, 13,000 employees are expected to be working within Campus 2 within the next 18 months.

The project will be built on a 175 acre area near the 280 highway, with the total building set to cover approximately 2.8 million square feet, featuring a 1,000 seat auditorium, a fitness centre, 300,000 square feet of research facilities, a power plant, and underground parking.

In the words of the great man, here is his vision for Campus 2:

“It's a circle,” said Jobs in 2011. “It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something.

“There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved.

“We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use.

“And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building... It's pretty cool.”
