Review: Philips AS111 Android Dock
Fri, 1st Feb 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

When it comes to audio docks, Android users dont have many options on the market.

But as we find out the Philips AS111 Android Dock is a pretty decent dock for Android users. In addition to being a music dock, it also doubles as an alarm clock which is controlled by the phone by the free Dockstudio App. The speaker has a microUSB connector that will charge most Android phones and can be moved around depending on where the port is on your phone. The dock connects via Bluetooth but there is an AUX-in port for wired playback instead or if you would like to use the radio. Buttons on the top of the dock can control playback and there is also a power button.

Pros:

  • Adjustable microUSB port
  • With the support application, the clock on the dock automatically matches the time on your phone.
  • Connection via Bluetooth is effective and there is the option for wired playback for radio listeners.
  • Brightness of the clock can be adjusted.
Cons:
  • If you have a larger Android phone, you might be a bit paranoid that the back support won’t hold it well.
  • Speakers are good but won’t be preferable to big bass listeners.
  • DockStudio app is a bit clunky and some might prefer the native player.
  • The app also loads up each time you plug in your phone to charge, even when not using the dock, but this can be disabled.
In terms of Android docks, the choices in the market are quite limited at present so this is a fairly good option for those looking for both an alarm clock and a docking station.

Score: 3.5/5
