Christchurch company Swiftpoint takes out CES Innovation Award

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Swiftpoint’s next-generation product, the Swiftpoint GT mouse, has won the 2015 CES Best of Innovation Award in the Computer Peripherals category.

Based in Christchurch, Swiftpoint launched the small pen-like ergonomic mouse several years ago and have now announced the release of the next-generation device.

The CES Innovation Awards started in 1976 to recognise achievements in product design and engineering. This year there were 28 product categories and entries are evaluated based on engineering, aesthetic qualities, user function and innovation.

Last year Samsung took out the Computer Peripherals win, and it's a category dominated by companies such as Sony, LG and Philips.

With the patented Gesture Technology, the Swiftpoint GT is used with intuitive touch gestures and natural touch gestures with finger and wrist actions.

“With just a swipe of the mouse using a natural finger and wrist action, you can quickly and precisely flick and pan straight to where you want to be in a long document or a wide spreadsheet. You won’t need to reach for your touch screen, or click on a scroll bar every again,” says Grant Odgers, Swiftpoint, founder and CEO.

Swiftpoint says the mouse is 30-40 percent more efficient and accurate than a touchpad, and utilises the touch screen features built into Word, Excel and Windows. It can be used with touch and non-touch modes in Windows 8 and 10.

With a pen-like ergonomic grip it is small and lightweight and designed for all hands sizes. The mouse is rechargeable and wireless, with Bluetooth 4 support as well as a USB receiver.

The Swiftpoint GT mouse is available at an early bird price through Kickstarter and will be shipped next month.
