FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple has acquired motion sensing technology firm PrimeSense for US$345m, in a bid to ramp up the company's Apple TV product range.

Strongly linked with a move for the Israeli 3D sensor provider since July this year, according to Israeli news outlet Calcalist, the deal has finally been completed.

Best known as the company which provided technology for the original Microsoft Kinect device, PrimeSense has denied the rumours, telling TheNextWeb:

“PrimeSense is the leading 3D technology in the market," the statement read.

"We are focused on building a prosperous company while bringing 3D sensing and Natural Interaction to the mass market in a variety of markets such as interactive living room and mobile devices

"We do not comment on what any of our partners, customers or potential customers are doing and we do not relate to rumors or re-cycled rumors.”

Unsurprisingly, Apple have refused to comment on the speculation, at present denying all links with the fabless semiconductor company.

According to the company's official website, PrimeSense is "paving the way in the area of sensory inputs for a wide range of industries and markets."

Founded in 2005, at present PrimeSense technology is already powering more than 24 million devices around the world.

"With it, we’re enabling Natural Interaction between people and devices and between devices and their surroundings for robust, user-friendly experiences," the company's About Us page reads.

"PrimeSense technology is powering the evolutionary path for a wide range of industries and markets."
