Early this morning NZ time Apple released iOS 6.1.3, a software update that fixes the bug that allowed someone to bypass the lock screen on an iPhone and access the Phone app. It also makes improvements to Maps in Japan.

The iOS vulnerability discovered late last month as reported by Mashable allowed unauthorised access but manipulating the iPhones emergency call functionality and power button to gain access to the phone.

Temporary access could be granted to the phone by starting an emergency call, cancelling it while also toggling the on/off switch.

You can update your phone now by going to your Settings menu on your iPhone, selecting General, and then Software Update.

This is recommend for all iPhone users, however if you are one that has jail broken your iPhone you might want to wait to see if there is a work around for the new iOS.
