FYI, this story is more than a year old

The folks over at 20th Century Fox have released an extended trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence and OH MY GOD.

The trailer, which is just under FIVE MINUTES long, provides a bit more detail to what we can expect in the second Independence Day film.

The sequel kicks of 20 years after the first. President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) is old, Will Smith is dead, and Jeff Goldblum looks to be at his cheesy one-liner best as alien life threatens to destroy earth once again.

The trailer explains that when Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith destroyed the mothership back in Independence Day One, those pesky aliens triggered a distress signal, calling for back up.

Twenty years on, that call has been answered. Enter sequel.

Like every disaster/end-of-the-world masterpiece, earth gets destroyed. Landmarks are obliterated. Entire cities crumble. People die.

But how will the sequel set itself apart? Gravity.

Yep. The new alien ship has its own fricken gravity and buildings and people get sucked up into the air and it's ridiculous and amazing.

The only downside to this trailer? Where are the woman heroes? Sure, they've got Sela Ward as the new president but as far as the action goes? Looks like that's reserved for Jeff, The Old President, Liam Hemsworth and dead Will Smith's son. The Old President‘s daughter plays a part, as daughter and Liam Hemsworth's girlfriend, but even Vivica A.Fox in her badass beauty looks to be set to play the role of Dead Will Smith's widow. Come on, Independence Day.

So, it may be this extended trailer is really just the entire film. If that's the case, I can't wait. It looks AMAZING. Even without Will Smith (Seriously: what is the deal there?!).
