Review: Brother MFCJ6920DW Multifunction
Wed, 6th Nov 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Brother MFCJ6920DW is the latest of the MFC series released this month from Brother, the biggest drawcard of this printer is its ability to take A3 sized paper despite being quite a compact printer. It’s hard to think how printers can be carbon-footprint friendly, however it does have a power saving sticker and will go into sleep mode when not in use. The two paper trays take up to 250 pages each in A4 sized paper, and changeable sizes for smaller and larger paper sizes, there are also customisable settings to choose which tray is used for particular types of files. There is also an automatic document feeder (ADF) which does take A3 originals along with scanning and faxing capabilities as well. Like most newer printers there it has wireless connectivity which allows you to print via your mobile with the Brother smartphone app, however this steps it up a notch having NFC capability as well. There are also slots for almost all types memory cards which allows you to print directly.

Pros:

  • Takes up to A3 sized paper.
  • High yield ink cartridges with two 250-sheet trays, and a rear feed slot.
  • Card slots and USB which allows you to print photos directly.
  • Fax, copying and scanning capabilities.
  • Prints upto 22ipm (images per minute) in black and 20ipm in colour.
  • Four colour cartridges allows you to replace only the necessary colour when it runs out.
  • You get a 3 year on-site warranty when you buy Genuine Brother consumables
Cons:
  • Can be quite noisy when it starts printing.
  • Printing quality varied highly depending on the type of document it was printing.
  • When printing via the app, there were no extra settings for the page order.
  • Application took a bit of learning to use it properly.
This particular printer would be well suited to a home business up to a small business, with many of the features being most useful for business use only. There are many multifunction printers available on the market, and this one does meet the expectations in terms of reliability and value.Score 3.5/5
