FYI, this story is more than a year old

Computerworld reports that, according to browser usage statistics, both Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox browsers are losing market share overall.

This is despite new versions of each browser, IE9 and Firefox 4, being released in March.

The lost market share is being picked up by Apple’s Safari and Google Chrome, the only two to make gains last month.

The current standings for the top five browsers (all versions), according to netmarketshare.com are:

Internet Explorer - 55.11%

Firefox - 21.63%

Chrome - 11.94%

Safari - 7.15%

Opera - 2.14%
