Telecom offers Kiwis chance to shape the future of home gaming

FYI, this story is more than a year old

New Zealanders keen on gaming are being offered the chance to help shape a new on-demand gaming service that could add another dimension to Telecom’s digital entertainment universe.

Telecom Digital Ventures, the Telecom innovation and incubator unit, has completed internal technical tests on Aircade, a cloud-based platform that allows users to access and play quality video games anywhere, anytime, similar to streaming services like Spotify or Netflix.

A public trial is now open for registration as Telecom Digital Ventures looks to New Zealanders of all ages to help put the service through its paces and provide feedback on the experience.

If the trial is successful, the telco says Aircade could revolutionise gaming for price-conscious players and button-bashing families who want to enjoy quality titles without spending hundreds of dollars, or even thousands, on a high-end console or gaming rig.

In fact all trialists need to get into the game is a PC or Mac, and a good broadband connection with plenty of data on tap.

The Aircade service was showcased at a Northpower fibre event in Whangarei earlier today, with event guests, including Communications and Information Technology Minister Amy Adams, able to try their hand.

Players can expect to enjoy a range of award-winning AAA blockbusters and pick-up-and-play hits from leading games studios across different genres.
