FYI, this story is more than a year old

Yahoo has entered the communication app space with Yahoo Livetext, a free one-to-one live video texting app for iPhone and Android.

Last month, the company debuted the app in Canada, France, Germany, the US and UK. Now Yahoo is rolling out the service globally.

The app combines texting and live video, providing users a ‘new way to stay in touch', says Yahoo.

Users can livestream audioless video to friends – videos can only be shared one-to-one, not to groups - and can choose to add text on top of the video.

Yahoo says real-time reactions are placed at the centre of the conversation.

Caroline Casey, Yahoo7 director of product and audience, says, "Globally, the Yahoo technology teams are dedicated to creating new products that make our audience's daily habits inspiring and entertaining.

“We're really excited to introduce Livetext to New Zealand smartphone users.

“Yahoo Livetext puts your words and your friend's real-time reactions at the centre of your conversation.

"Combining the emotion and immediacy of live video with the simplicity of text messaging.

Yahoo Livetext will be available in New Zealand from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store from today.
