Thu, 17th Jun 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Social networking accounts for 22% of all time spent on the internet reports market research firm Nielsen.

The report, released on Tuesday, said that social media sites, such as Facebook and YouTube now account for almost a quarter of all internet usage. This means that web users spend a total of 110 billion minutes on social networks and blog sites per month. Furthermore, social networking or blogging sites are visited by three quarters of internet consumers globally, up 24% over last year.

The survey also revealed that Google is, unsurprisingly, the world’s most popular brand with 82% of the world’s internet population having visited it in the last month. Facebook remained the biggest drain on our time however, with users spending an average of six hours on the site per month.
