FYI, this story is more than a year old

Last month Ridley Scott made an open call to budding directors to contribute to a new YouTube project called 'Life in a Day'.

Acting as producer, Scott will team up with Kevin Macdonald (Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void) to create 'Life in a Day', a documentary which will chronicle the events of a single day on earth, July 24th, 2010, using footage shot by YouTube users from around the world on that day.

The project is being hailed as YouTube’s "first user-generated feature-length documentary".

Submissions have now closed and YouTube has announced that the project received a massive 80,000 videos from 197 countries.

“Stay tuned for launch of the video gallery in early Sept,” YouTube added.
