FYI, this story is more than a year old

This is an unassuming little app that you might not be bothered installing. Do me a favour – give it a second glance.

Available on Android, iOS and BlackBerry, this is a simple little app that doesn’t require any log in details or passwords - which in this day of (sometimes) necessary paranoia around security, is quite nice.

At first glance it might seem all this app does is list all the Grab a Seat deals available each day. In fact, there is a little more to it than that. Tap the ‘My Alerts’ tab and set up as many alerts as you would like to receive by simply selecting the destination and price range you are interested in and when those particular deals appear, the app will notify you on your phone screen.

Once you have found the deal you wish to purchase, simply tap it and you will be taken to the Air NZ site to make your booking. It’s as simple as that – and it means the days of missing out on a great ticket price because you can’t get near a computer are behind you.

Tuesday is auction day for Grab A Seat fans – and yes, it is a simple case of tapping the tab.

The great thing about this app is its simplicity. It is pared back to the basics without losing any functionality or appeal – and it delivers on all fronts.

If you’re a regular traveller or just looking for a deal to visit Great Aunt Gertrude, take a look at this app. You won’t be sorry.

The free app is available for iOS here, for Android here, and for BlackBerry here. If you’re a regular traveller you may also like to check our review of Air New Zealand’s mPass app, which can be found here.
