Apple celebrates its 1 billionth iPhone sale
Fri, 29th Jul 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple's declared it has sold a whopping one billion iPhones worldwide, and it looks like they have no plans of stopping.

Apple CEO Tim Cook made the announcement at an employee meeting in Cupertino on Wednesday, celebrating the iPhone's success since its launch in 2007.

"iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history. It's become more than a constant companion. iPhone is truly an essential part of our daily life and enables much of what we do throughout the day. Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we've always set out to make the best products that make a difference. Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day," Cook says.

However, Apple's iPhones sales are dropping, according to its latest financial reports. In the third quarter of 2016, sales reached 40,399 - a drop from 51,193 in the previous quarter and 47,534 Q3 last year.

It's been a while since the iPhone 6s was released in September last year, however rumours are surfacing that the iPhone 7 will be released in September of this year. Nothing has been confirmed as yet, however the pattern fits what Apple has done in the past. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released in September 2014, while the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s were released in September 2013.

Apple's recent improvements to Siri and product improvements to the Mac OS, Apple TV, Apple Watch and smart home products will still provide Apple fans plenty to chew on, but the wait is now on for the iPhone 7 and whatever Apple dreams up next.
