Armageddon Expo 2015 was another successful event

The Armageddon 2015 Expo was another successful event bringing out the best in gaming, comics and other geek culture.

The event has grown over the last two decades to be one of the best pop culture conventions in the Southern Hemisphere. The 2015 event in Auckland showed why it's still very popular.

Because of the absence of the Digital Nationz event in 2015, this was the only major gaming event that fans could attend to play the upcoming blockbuster games. Both Sony and Microsoft brought out the big guns.

This year's gaming stands took up a lot of floor space as tons of great games were on display. This was the only event that gamers could play blockbusters like Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Star Wars Battlefront before they come out.

Sony also brought out the PlayStation VR headset for a select few to try out. This VR headset is similar to the Oculus Rift and it's something to look forward to when it comes out sometime in 2016.

Elsewhere in the gaming front were the likes of Guitar Hero Live, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, plus Street Fighter 5. I managed played the latter game and it was awesome. The game is a step up from the fourth iteration and the graphics have improved too.

The other major thing I attended at Armageddon Expo was watching WWE Hall of Famer Jake "The Snake" Roberts on the main stage. Roberts talked about the highs and lows of his professional wrestling career and the fans in the hall were glued to his every word.

If you did not know, Roberts has battled both drug and alcohol addictions for a number of years. Thanks to DDP (another wrestler), he's healthier and was happy to share a small portion of his journey to us Kiwi wrestling fans.

There were also lots of other stars from movies, TV shows and comic books as well. I did not have a chance to catch up with any other celebrities, although I got to see Manu Bennett. Bennett starred in the Hobbit trilogy as well as starring in Arrow too.

However, my favourite parts about Armageddon each year is seeing all of the costumes, plus buying all of the cool stuff that is usually on sale too. I did not dress up this year, but there were many other impressive cosplayers I saw.

There were also a ton of cool stores that attended the 2015 event and lots of stuff were on sale. Noel Leeming in particular were clearing out all of their PS3 and Xbox 360 games at very cheap prices. Many stores were also selling the popular Pop Vinyl figures too.

If there is a certain day you should go, I would say Monday is the less "busiest". It's still busy, but not as insanely packed as Saturday which is the first day that is available for the public.

Anyway, Auckland Armageddon 2015 was another successful event and I enjoyed it better than last year's one. Here's hoping the 2016 event brings even more cool guests and other special features.
