FYI, this story is more than a year old

ASUS' new high-performance gaming laptop has arrived in New Zealand. Available now from select channel stores at a starting price from $2,099, the ASUS Republic of Gamers' (ROG) GL552 is powered by a 6th-generation Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics with DirectX 12 support.

According to the company, the laptop has been designed to provide performance for every game and any content, has a high strength and stealth fighter-inspired design, a keyboard that 'commands the game', ample storage with easy-access upgrades, and HD and audio excellence.

"Maximum gaming performance, attentive design, flawless visuals and instant upgrades. ROG GL552 is ready to play," ASUS says.

The GL552 has ASUS-exclusive GameFirst III network optimisation, a highly-responsive, low-profile, red-backlit keyboard with specially-marked WASD keys, and a Full HD IPS display with wide viewing angles.

According to ASUS, ROG GL552 is made for gaming and primed for creativity, and retains the F-22 Raptor-inspired lines popularised by ROG's G Series, with angled surfaces.

The GL552 sports a low-profile keyboard, with easy-touch keys that operate with a travel distance of 1.8mm. The marked WASD key group and dedicated numeric pad enable full control. Manufactured as a solid, one-piece construction, the entire keyboard is illuminated by a ROG-red backlight for anytime visibility.

The device also offers maxed-out storage options, with up to 2TB of hard disk storage plus 256G SSD - fulfilling users' desires for both maximum storage and maximum speed. A slide-off panel offers instant access to M.2 SSD, hard drive and memory slots.

The notebook features ASUS-exclusive GameFirst III technology, which optimises networks to give users lag-free gameplay. It prioritises game packets and allocates more bandwidth for lag-free gaming. GameFirst III features four preset packet-priority modes, and manual settings for users who want total control over their network.

GL552's large 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display has a matte-black finish that eliminates glare, and the display offers wide 178-degree viewing angles for minimal colour shift. ASUS SonicMaster provides high-fidelity audio, while ROG AudioWizard features five preset modes with settings tailored to suit different game genres.
