FYI, this story is more than a year old

ICT students receive recognition from industry leaders at a ceremony in Wellington earlier this week.    Three dedicated WelTec (Wellington Institute of Technology) students were proud to receive Intergen Young Achiever Awards.    Aleisha Perry, Hyuck Yim and Nicole Priddy earned these honours with their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to their peers and the programme. The winners were nominated by fellow WelTec students.   Intergen CEO Simon Bright has congratulated these students for moving into such an important and fast-growing sector. He says it's great to see more young people take the opportunity to work in New Zealand's leading export sector.    “ICT is an exciting and fast-paced sector to work in. Through the Intergen Young Achievers Awards we want to promote ICT and get more young people interested in learning more about this exciting area.   “When we say ICT we are talking about at least 27 different roles so there are many exciting and challenging career options for graduates.”   Aleisha Perry says the award has been a massive compliment and an opportunity to meet with a company like Intergen.    “The Intergen Young Achiever Award is a great boost to my confidence.   “It is fantastic to be introduced so early on in my studies to a go-ahead company like Intergen.”   Nicole Priddy set her sights on an ICT career early on and says she is grateful to have her hard work recognised.    “It's great to get this recognition especially when my peers nominated me.”   Hyuck Yim was humbled by the recognition and was encouraged by the support of his work.    WelTec CE Chris Gosling says they are glad to work with Intergen to be able to deliver these awards. WelTec head of IT Gerry McCullough says it's a great way to provide opportunities for ICT graduates.   “There are many opportunities for our ICT graduates and we are delighted to be associated with this important initiative.   “Intergen has a significant presence in New Zealand and we value the strong relationship we have with them, not only as an employer of our graduates but also in the opportunities the company provides to our wider student body. Our relationship with Intergen is a win-win for both WelTec and Intergen.”   Intergen also recruit around 25 graduates from institution across New Zealand each year. This is an example of a tech-focused education leading directly into an exciting and valuable industry.   With such a high need for skilled ICT graduates to go out into the workforce, these partnerships are an essential symbiosis for the industry.
