Bitdefender unveils The Box, a home IoT security device
Thu, 27th Nov 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Bitdefender has launched The Box, a home device designed to meet security threats of the Internet of Things (IoT), and says it is the start of the ‘Protection of Everything’.

The Box is a stand alone device with blend of hardware and software and provides protection for a range of devices from a host of threats. Bitdefender says this heralds the end of the era of antivirus and the beginning of an era of seamless online protection.

“The Box represents the birth of a faster, smarter, leaner and more convenient weapon against online dangers,” says Catalin Cosoi, Bitdefender, chief security strategist. “The Box embodies security the way it should be – it fully protects you 24/7 and most members of the family won’t even realise it’s there.”

The device ensures safety of a number of devices including PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, Android, Wiis and Xboxes by protecting against threats such as fraud, malware, data theft and spying.

In order to meet the security needs of the IoT, The Box also protects smart TVs, smart fridges and other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Bitdefender says with The Box, devices will receive comprehensive protection and continue to operate at maximum efficiency.

Features include network-level protection to prevent security breaches, antitheft capabilities, and the ability to tune up a device and update its operating system, depending on the device and platform.

The Box can be set up quickly and users can manage their own devices.

Details on pricing and availability are yet to be revealed, but it will be available in Australia in 2015.
