Black Ops II unveils new content

Zombies, volcanoes and Ray Liotta are just three of the things coming to Black Ops II later this month.

New DLC entitled Uprising will be available on Xbox 360 first, launching on April 16.

The release of the content for the PS3 has yet to be announced.

Although it will set you back 1200 Microsoft points, there’s quite a lot of new content in the pack including four new multiplayer maps and a new ‘Mob of the Dead’ mode.

In Mob of the Dead players will visit Alcatraz with “four prohibition-era mobster, Bill Handsome [Ray Liotta], Al ‘The Weasel’ Arlington [Joe Pantoliano, aka Ralph Ciferetto from the Sopranos], Salvatore ‘Sal’ DeLuca [Chazz Palminteri from the Usual Suspects], and Michael ‘Finn’ O’Leary [Michael Madsen].”

A breakout attempt by the four is spoiled by the sudden rise of the undead, forcing them to fight for survival using any weaponry they can lay their hands on.

In a new twist, if a player does get infected by the zombies a new feature called Purgatory comes into play and you enter the afterlife, complete with a new set of objectives and goals.

Treyarch studio boss Mark Lamia says the new features are what make this new content interesting.

“With Uprising, the team has really outdone itself again. In addition to creating four amazing new multiplayer maps, the studio has been hard at work on the zombies front to surpass what we accomplished with ‘Call of the Dead’.

What they’ve done this time around is nothing Zombies fans have seen before – and if you don’t believe me, just wait until you get into Purgatory.”

In terms of the new maps, they’re all highly varied. Magma takes place in a Japanese village plagued by constant volcanic eruptions.

Encore is set immediately after a London music festival and is focused around close quarters combat. Studio puts players in an empty Hollywood back lot with different backgrounds and settings including Old West and science-fiction.

Vertigo is in India and features multi-tiered pathways and futuristic high-rise buildings. As I mentioned, it hits Xbox first on April 16, and if you have a Black Ops II season pass it won’t cost you anything.

As for whether or not this DLC will come to the PS3 anytime soon, that remains to be seen – perhaps it’s a Skyrim scenario all over again, and Treyarch just like to see PS3 users sweat.
