Change your tuning

If you’re a little confused as to what’s involved in New Zealand’s pending switchover to a digital television is all about, help is at hand.
www.goingdigital.co.nz is a website designed to tell you everything you need to know about making the upcoming switch – when you’ll need to make the change, what your TV will need, and a full list of digital TV providers (because you may not even need to change a thing).
A few things to note:

  • If you’re a household with Freeview, Sky or TV provided by TelstraClear, you are already set for digital switchover.

  • Other viewers do not need to buy a new television to make the switch, but may need to buy a set-top box and possibly a new aerial or satellite dish, depending on what equipment they currently have and where they live.

  • New Zealand will make the switch to digital television, region by region, by November 2013, beginning with Hawke’s Bay and the West Coast in September 2012 (to find out when your region is going digital, visit tinyurl.com/49bg8n9).

After visiting the site, if you’re still unsure about what’s involved you can call 0800 838 800, a free-phone helpline that has all the information you’ll need about the upcoming digital TV signal.
