Do you forget your daily deal purchases?
Thu, 19th Jul 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

If you're a fan of so-called ‘daily deal' sites, chances are you've experienced the frustration of paying for a deal, forgetting to note the expiry date, then going to redeem your purchase and finding you're too late.

It sounds unbelievable, but studies indicate that between 10% and 30% of purchased deals go unused, particularly as the market becomes more crowded and it gets harder to keep of track of which deal was purchased from where.

To combat the problem, three Auckland daily deal fans have created a new website called DealWorks that aggregates deals purchased from different sites and sends reminders to users about which deals are due to expire.

The site supports all the major deal providers, including GrabOne, Treat Me, Groupon NZ, LivingSocial, 1-day and Yazoo.

People can use the site to browse deals across multiple providers. Any time a user clicks through to the provider's site to make a purchase, DealWorks stores the deal for the user to add to their deal reminder system.

Reminder emails are sent four weeks and one week before each deal expires, although these settings can be changed according to what the user wants.

DealWorks co-founder David Choy says the free system makes sure impulse purchases made online or on a mobile device aren't forgotten once the buyer leaves their desk or puts down their smartphone.

"With DealWorks, the days of losing money on expired deals are over,” Choy says.
