Dotcom demands spying probe
Fri, 28th Sep 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Kim Dotcom has backed calls for an independent inquiry into government spies who illegally accessed his communications.

Prime Minister John Key has already ordered an inquiry into the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) after the unit’s staff were alleged to have unlawfully acquired communications relating to the Megaupload case.

Key admitted the GCSB “acted unlawfully while assisting the police to local certain individuals subject to arrest warrants,” and apologised to Dotcom for the controversy.

This lead the Megaupload founder to issue a reply, tweeting:

"Show your sincerity by supporting a full, transparent & independent inquiry into the entire Mega case."

He went on to challenge Key to "show the world that your government is not an American dancing bear".

Key assigned inspector-general of Intelligence and Security Paul Neazor to investigate the allegations earlier this week, with the PM also seeking recommendations to prevent a repeat in the future.

An extradition case to the U.S. against Dotcom is scheduled for March 2013.
