Facebook fine tunes Android App

Facebook is in the final stages of developing a new Android app for users, over a month after releasing an update to iOS users.

A social networking site insider told tech website Engadget final testing periods for the new app are imminent, but alluded to comment on an exact timeframe.

The original Android app was built off a HTML5, with the social media giant hoping going native will help solve the current problems such as slowness.

Past studies, including one issued in May by the NPD Group, shows Facebook has over 70% of the social media market on Android, meaning a swift resolution would help the company continue their dominance of the industry.

Last week Facebook reached one billion active users with founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg calling for a more open and connected world.

The landmark was the biggest of several revealed by the social media giant, with the site also enjoying 600 million mobile users which could soon be more with the arrival of their new Android app.
