Who would have thought that Rockstar’s most ambitious and engaging open-world environment yet would be set in the American Old West circa 1911? Rather than have your friends bug you every five minutes to go bowling (no cellphones, you see), Red Dead Redemption spiced things up with dozens of randomly generated events to keep the player hooked beyond the main storyline. And that’s not to mention the absolutely gorgeous and meticulously crafted environments; Red Dead Redemption’s take on the Wild West is at least as captivating as anything served up in Liberty City. Add to this a lengthy single-player campaign, competitive and co-operative multiplayer and a decent haul of post-release DLC, and you’ve got yourself an action/adventure title that will sustain your interest longer than most. Red Dead Redemption is a truly marvelous technical achievement, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s a hell of a lot of fun to boot.
