Thu, 9th Sep 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Today’s iOS 4.1 software update is the first major update to iOS 4, says Apple, which brings with it Game Center, new iTunes features, high dynamic range photography and more to iPhone.

Here's what you get:

Game Centre

Experience social gaming on your iPhone. Find friends or use auto-match to play multiplayer games against new opponents. Track achievements and compare high scores.1

iTunes TV show rentals

Rent TV shows commercial-free right from your iPhone for just 99¢ an episode and start watching them in minutes.

iTunes Ping

Take advantage of new social discovery features in iTunes. Keep up with your friends’ music and follow your favorite artists.

HDR photography

iPhone 4 only: Take photos that capture a wider range of light intensity using the new high dynamic range (HDR) setting on iPhone 4, which automatically combines multiple exposures into a single HDR image. You can also upload HD video to YouTube and MobileMe from your iPhone 4.

iOS 4 works with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G.

Update: If you’re wondering about an iPad update, looks like you won’t be getting one until November.

“iPad owners will get to enjoy its 100+ new features and innovations — including multitasking, folders, printing, and more. Look for iOS 4.2 coming in November for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch,” says Apple support.
