FYI, this story is more than a year old

Kiwi iPhone fans have less than 10 days to wait before the iPhone 4S goes on sale in this country.

Apple has announced the device will be available here on Friday, November 11. Pre-orders will be possible from this Friday, November 4.

New Zealand is among 29 countries in the third release wave, along with nations such as Hong Kong, South Korea, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece and Guatemala.

The 16GB model will retail for $1049, the 32GB model for $1199 and the 64GB model for $1349. Both black and white versions will be available.

The iPhone 4 is priced at $899 and the iPhone 3GS for $599.

International fans say the standout feature of the iPhone 4S is the voice recognition tool, Siri. What criticism there has been has centred on poor battery life, although Apple's user forums offer plenty of advice to mitigate the problem, and the company is reportedly working on a fix.

Update: Apple has confirmed that users are experiencing battery troubles on devices running iOS 5, and is promising to release a fix in the next few weeks - possibly around the time the device goes on sale here in New Zealand.

A company spokesperson told The Loop, "A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices.

"We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks."

Update 2: The iPhone 4S is now available for pre-order in New Zealand.

Apple's online store says people who pre-order the device will receive it between November 15 and 28, which seems a long wait given the device will be available in stores on November 11.
