iPhone 5 hits two million Chinese sales

Apple has sold over two million of its new iPhone 5 in China, just three days after its launch on December 14.

The tech giant says the product will be available in over 100 countries by the end of December, making it the fastest iPhone rollout ever.

“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China,” says Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

“China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.”

Apple sold 26.9 million iPhones during the fourth quarter this year, turning over US$36 billion revenue with $8.2 billion profit.

The company also topped the search engine list for 2012, with the new smartphone heading Yahoo’s most obsessed news item.
