Strong reports are suggesting Apple will reveal plans to replace their wide dock connector in a move set to delight accessory makers and alienate iPhone users.

The technology experts look set to replace the old 30-pin dock to a new 19-pin connector, ‘to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom' according to international news agency Reuters.

The new design would allow scope for bigger batteries or even smaller products but would mean incompatibility with a host of accessories including speakers and power charges.

If confirmed, the proposal could distance iPhone users who may feel inclined to switch to the newest Android models to combat the move.

Online rumours are rife however that an adapter will be released alongside the new iPhone, allowing users to connect to their old accessories without replacing their products.
