SKY has announced its intention to launch its iSKY internet-television service on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles in New Zealand. No official details have been revealed, but it seems that SKY is actively pursuing this initiative.

Few details are known at the time of writing, but we'll have more on this as soon as our man on the scene returns.

A number of ISPs have already partnered with iSKY for unmetered content.

While PlayStation 3 currently supports TVNZ's Ondemand, no other on-demand television services are available on current-generation game consoles in New Zealand. By contrast, US residents have had access to Netflix streaming television and movie content since November 2008 on Xbox 360, a year later on PlayStation 3 and since this January on the Nintendo Wii. In Australia, over 30 Foxtel channels became available via Xbox LIVE on November 10th.

There are other non-television services currently available on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however: Xbox 360 has its Zune movie service, and PlayStation has recently launched MUBI streaming film service, which focuses on independent, international and classic cinema.

PlayStation's PlayTV PVR peripheral, which allows users to record FreeviewHD content to their PS3 hard drives, launches in New Zealand tomorrow.

Update: SKY's Director of Sports Content and New Media, Richard Last, told Game Console that SKY is currently in talks with both Sony and Microsoft to bring iSKY to consoles. Last said that as it's already been done in the UK and Australia on Xbox 360, there's a good chance it will happen on 360 first. However, he wouldn't be drawn on when the deal might be signed.

Update 2: Still no movement on iSky coming to consoles. "The console launches are still a work in progress and are probably some time off," Sky just told us.
