Kobo introduces colour ereader to NZ
Thu, 8th Dec 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Just in time for Christmas, Canadian ereader company Kobo has launched its new Kobo Vox onto the New Zealand market, with the devices hitting 60 Whitcoulls stores around the country this week.

The Vox offers one main advantage over the Kobo Touch, in the form of a full colour screen. Children’s books, cookbooks, travel guides and graphic novels will all be much more vivid, plus users can choose from a selection of pre-loaded entertainment apps, including over 4800 popular magazines such as NZ House & Garden and Cuisine.

8GB of storage is available, or enough for around 8000 books or magazines. The device will also take up to a 32GB Micro-SD memory card, and supports music formats such as mp3 and aac and video formats such as mp4 and webm.

Retailing at $399, the Vox is twice as expensive as the Touch, but with the ability to access the internet and social networks via wi-fi it is still quite attractive. The 7-inch display is no match for the iPad’s 9.7-inch screen, but at half the price the Vox will make a much more affordable gift.
