Mac App Store sees 1m downloads at launch

Apple has said that more than one million apps have been downloaded from the recently launched Mac App Store in its first day of going live as word of a hack emerges.

“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” said Steve Jobs, Apple CEO. “Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.”

The Mac App Store went live last week with more than 1000 free and paid apps. You buy and download apps using your iTunes account, just like you would if you were using an iPhone.

The store is available for Snow Leopard users through Software Update as part of Mac OS X v10.6.6.

It’s not all good news for the store though as CNET is reporting that a hack that lets users dodge Apple’s DRM measures is already doing the rounds.

If you’ve been using the Mac App Store since launch, tell your fellow MacGuide readers what the best apps to download are.
