FYI, this story is more than a year old

2K Games has announced the first two downloadable-content packs (DLC) for next month's open-world gangster game Mafia II. The first - The Betrayal of Jimmy - is a PlayStation 3-exclusive free download available from Mafia II's launch day. The second pack - Jimmy's Vendetta - will release across all platforms at an as-yet unspecified date shortly after the full game's launch.

According to a press release from 2K Games, The Betrayal of Jimmy offers players "an alternative perspective of the mob through the eyes of Jimmy, a mercenary". The pack features "dozens" of arcade-style, city-based missions. Players will receive points based on their performance, with the scores unlocking further missions. Player scores are also immediately posted to the leaderboard for comparison with their friends' scores.

Jimmy's Vendetta provides another slew of city-based missions that, according to the press release, "will give players many new reasons to head back to Empire Bay. Jimmy's Vendetta will offer more replay action and allow players to outrank friends as they rise to the top of the leaderboard". No further details pertaining to the price or the release date of Jimmy's Vendetta have been released at the time of writing.

Mafia II releases on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC from August 26th.
