Mortal Kombat granted NZ classification

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Mortal Kombat has received an R18 classification in New Zealand, ensuring the game's release in this country.

The game's distributor, Fiveight, has just emailed to confirm the game's rating. Mortal Kombat is the latest game to have its classification refused in Australia by the Australian Classification Board for its extreme levels of violence. However, the game's publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, has decided to appeal the board's decision, submitting an unaltered version of the game for the board's reconsideration. Warner Bros. has successfully appealed the board's refusal of classification twice in the past for the games Aliens vs. Predator and F.E.A.R. 2.
