Motorola Defy out now - exclusive to Telecom
Wed, 27th Apr 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Telecom has partnered with Motorola to launch the Motorola Defy, which is described as a slim, Android smartphone that features advanced web browsing capabilities and a 3.7” touch screen.

At a press event yesterday afternoon at Telecom’s Auckland headquarters, Telecom Chief Marketing Officer, Kieren Cooney, said the Defy is the kind of device the XT network was built for.

"With XT, we've invested heavily to build New Zealand's smartphone network - empowering Kiwi’s to take the internet with them wherever they go. The Defy is the perfect partner for this, as now you can take the internet with you, even into places where there's a bit of rough and tumble,” he said.

Telecom sees the smartphone as a major part of the company's business going forward but Cooney said there are no plans for a Telecom-branded smartphone even though the company recently released a Telecom-branded Android tablet.

Motorola Defy ships with a Flash 10.1-enabled browser and 3.7” WVGA screen and also includes 3G mobile hotspot options to connect up to five WiFi devices.

Defy is available from today for $799 through the Telecom Mobile Store or through Telecom stores and dealers.
