Netflix to add ANZ 'local flavour' - but where's the Kiwi content?

Netflix and distributor Beyond Distribution have today announced they will bring a ‘wide range’ of international and locally produced content to Australia and New Zealand when the service launches next month, however the only ‘local’ content mentioned comes straight out of Australia, not New Zealand.

Netflix will bring several Australian stand up comedy shows to the network, as well as local kids’ titles H20: Just Add Water and the first season of Mako Mermaids.

Both Australian and New Zealander users will be able to stream Emmy-nominated hit series MythBusters.

There is no confirmed comment yet on what, if any, New Zealand-made content will be made available through Netflix.

“We’re excited to include these top-notch local titles on our Australian and New Zealand services,” says Sean Carey, vice president of content acquisition at Netflix.

“The partnership with Beyond Distribution will bring Netflix members entertainment from local shores and abroad that we know they will spend many hours enjoying.”

Joanne Azzopardi, VP sales for Australia and New Zealand at Beyond Distribution, comments, “Netflix has been a very successful platform for our content worldwide and we are thrilled to now be extending this relationship to include Australia and New Zealand."
