Eagerly awaited Netflix will be hitting New Zealand screens in a matter of weeks.

The popular US-based movie and TV streaming service has announced its services will begin in New Zealand and Australia come March 24.

Netflix, who announced it had partnered with Vodafone to bring its services to Apple and Android tablets and smartphones, is direct competition of similar local services Lightbox (Spark) and Neon (Sky TV).

The service will be available on smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sony, Philips and HiSense, as well as PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles.  Users can also access the service via Apple TV, Google Chromecast.

It expected the New Zealand version of the service will be a ‘watered down' version of what US subscribers can access.

Pricing for Netflix in New Zealand has not yet been revealed.
