Nokia sorry for fake smartphone ad
Fri, 7th Sep 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Nokia has apologised after broadcasting a misleading smartphone advert to customers.

The Finnish manufacturer was forced to say sorry after footage filmed was not used by the Lumia 920 smartphone advertised, but instead by a cameraman.

Technology website The Verge made the discovery after noticing the reflection of a cameraman through a window, as a young man films his girlfriend on the Lumia 920 smartphone.

The footage was intended to support Nokia's claim that it can reduce image blur, with the company boasting the Lumia 920 features the best smartphone image quality in the industry.

But the revelations threaten to dampen the mood of the launch, leading to an official apology from the company.

"We produced a video that stimulates what we will be able to deliver with OIS," says Heidi Lemmetyinen, Nokia blog editor.

"Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only.

"This was not shot with a Lumia 920... we apologise for the confusion we created."
