Orcon unveils home phone app

While somewhat anti-climatic, Orcon has revealed Genius Go in Auckland this afternoon.

Speaking to the assembled media, CEO Greg McAlister introduced the free smartphone application which allows Kiwis to take their home phones anywhere - bringing down the cost of national and international calling.

Branding ISP developed smartphone app a New Zealand first, McAlister fully integrates landlines and smartphones - extending the Genius home line functionality by synchronising the home phone with one or more smartphones.

As a result, customers can now answer their home phone on their smartphones, wherever they maybe, with McAlister believing the app will change the way Kiwis connect.

"With home phone and broadband packages becoming more competitive, consumers are continually looking for new value and innovation," he says of the app, which is available on both iOS and Android.

"We created Genius Go with this in mind; so our customers could get the most out of their broadband bundles.

"We also wanted to set a precedent among other telecommunications providers.

"You're never going to miss a call because it is always routed to the place most convenient for you.

"People typically carry their smartphone at all times - and this app just makes your home phone more convenient, and can save you money."

Key benefits include:

• Fully integrates with home phone
• Receive home phone calls from anywhere on a smartphone
• Make local landline calls from up to five smartphones linked to your home account, simultaneously
• Make free calls on your smartphone to destinations for which you have a home calling bundle
• Make free calls and message (via data) to other smartphones that have the app

McAlister also revealed that the company is halving the price of its fixed line to mobile calling bundles, with calls now starting at 8c per minute.
