Playtv finally reaches new zealand

Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand has finally launched the PlayTV peripheral in New Zealand at the price of $199.95. It’s a device that enables your PlayStation 3 as a FreeviewHD-capable Digital Video Recorder (DVR), allowing you to pause, rewind and record live television to your console’s hard drive. PlayTV features twin digital-TV tuners, which means that you can record content from one channel while watching another, playing games, watching Blu-ray and more.
With official Electronic Programme Guide support (EPG) providing a television schedule up to 13 days in advance, PlayTV makes it easy to schedule the automatic recording of your favourite shows on any Freeview channel. You can then watch your recorded content at your leisure, either on your television via your PlayStation 3, or on a PlayStation Portable, Sony Ericsson AINO phone or Sony VAIO laptop using the Remote Play feature. Remote Play allows you to stream content from your PlayStation 3 to enabled devices if an internet connection is present at both ends.
"PS3 in New Zealand has today made a very significant leap forward with the addition of TV services to its already broad home entertainment credentials,” said David Hine, sales and marketing manager for Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand. "PlayTV delivers all the features other premium PVR devices do and more, at a fraction of the cost.”
PlayTV has been available overseas since September 2008. Game Console understands that complications with EPG formatting are behind the delay in reaching these shores. Technically, Kiwi PS3 owners have been able to import the PlayTV device from overseas for use on their home console for some time, although it did not have official EPG support until now.
Sony has also announced a 320GB PlayStation 3 bundle including PlayTV for $729.95.
