The Bamboo Pen and Touch is essentially a touch-sensitive tablet that allows you not only to draw as if with a pen (using the Bamboo Pen stylus), but also to drive your whole computer interface. In a nutshell, you won’t need a mouse! Similarly to notebook touchpads, many of the same functions can be achieved using finger or stylus gestures. It’s a little tricky at first, but thankfully there’s a comprehensive tutorial that will quickly bring you up to speed. The major addition to the Bamboo is the multi-touch feature, which allows you to make iPhone-like ‘pinch’ and ‘push’ gestures to resize, rotate and zoom.

PROS: Unparalleled precision for computer-based artists and designers, relatively affordable, brings multi-touch and gesture functionality to otherwise unequipped computers. And you can finally pen your signature to Word documents digitally!

CONS: A little fiddly to use at first. The black finish picks up fingerprints like nothing else.

VERDICT: It’s certainly not for everyone, but the Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch brings a raft of functionality once considered a luxury within the reach of everyday consumers.
