Samsung scores Fortune 500 win over Apple
Wed, 10th Jul 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The global game of tech points scoring continues between Samsung and Apple, with the South Korean firm beating its fierce rival in the Fortune Global 500 list.

Upon the release of the list on Monday, Samsung was named the world's 14th largest company in terms of revenue, five places ahead of Apple in 19th place.

Recording US$178.6 billion revenue last year, Samsung jumped from 20th place in 2012 to top the tech list across the world.

Apple has reason to be happy however, with the Cupertino company moving from a distant 55th place in 2012, to a much loftier position following $156.5 billion in revenue.

The closer tech competitor to the two was Hon Hai Precision, also known as Foxconn, in 30th place, with Japanese firm NTT coming in at 32nd place.

AT&T (34th), Hewlett-Packard (43rd), Verizon Communications (48th), Hitachi (54th), IBM (62nd), China Mobile Communications (71st), Panasonic (83rd), Sony (94th) and Telefonica (97th) all made the Top 100.

Topping the list with revenues of a whopping $481.7 billion was Royal Dutch Shell.
