Sidhe's Blood Drive won't see local release
Wed, 3rd Nov 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Game Console has followed the development of Blood Drive, a post-apocalyptic vehicular combat game developed by local powerhouse Sidhe, since its announcement. From the same studio that brought us Gripshift, Shatter and Rugby League 3, Blood Drive will enjoy global distribution this time courtesy of Activision.

And that's the problem - the powers that be at Activision have reportedly decided that the hassle of getting Blood Drive through the notorious Australian classification process was not going to be worth it. Subsequently, that means that it won't be distributed in New Zealand either.

Earlier this afternoon, Game Console spoke to Mario Wynands, managing director of Sidhe. He said that, although he's in the dark as to the exact reason, his understanding is that the locally developed game will, ironically, not release here.

"All I know is that it's currently a game that might be challenging to get through the [Australian Classification Board]. But I don't have visibility on what the process is," said Wynand. "My understanding is that the game won't be released in Australasia."

According to Wynand, Sidhe learned the news some weeks back not from Activision itself but through a podcast in which an Activision spokesperson mentioned that Blood Drive would not release in this territory.

Blood Drive is available internationally for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 right now.
