Skype update won't 'negatively affect' Android battery life

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Skype has released an update for its Android app, which promises to improve the battery life of devices.

The company now claims that users can leave the app running on their device "all day without negatively affecting battery life", according to Next Web.

The new Skype 4.7 version also fixes the following issues;

* Workaround for the KitKat bug which caused a runaway process when the camera was synced in the background.

* Fix for audio and video calling on tablets that do not have Bluetooth.

* Now lists your Windows Live Messenger contacts in the Skype (default) view, not just the All contacts view.

Experts suggest that the battery life improvements are due to the fact that Skype has turned off instant notification of messages in group chats. The company says that they will return this feature "in the near future" when it no longer impacts on battery life.
