Great news for team Xbox: Later this week Microsoft will be shedding some light on the new Xbox Scorpio, by releasing the system specifications of the upcoming game console.

According to Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, a confirmed “exclusive Xbox Scorpio reveal” will happen on Thursday 6th April, following speculation. Microsoft invited Digital Foundry recently to take a look under the hood of Project Scorpio and view the upcoming game Forza Motorsport 7 running at the highly touted 4k resolution.

As reported by Windows Central, Project Scorpio will have an ‘incredibly compact design', which should make for great advances with cooling, and will also feature with an integrated power supply. Don't expect to see the final design or even the final name this week though, at this stage it seems to be just a release of specifications. Microsoft will release the specs ahead of their E3 presentation, where they are expected to be heavily focussed on upcoming games for the new console.

Microsoft has already revealed that the Scorpio will run at 6 teraflops, which easily exceeds the graphical power of the main competitor to the new console: The Playstation 4 Pro which runs at 4.2 teraflops. Project Scorpio is leaving behind the Xbox One's ESRAM, instead picking up 12GB of GDDR5 memory over the Xbox One's 8GB DDR3 and 32MB of static ESRAM.

However, since games are not allowed to be Scorpio exclusive by policy, any titles arriving on Scorpio outside of VR titles will also be available for the Xbox One, at lower resolutions.
