Sony's EXTRA BASS series has a new family member that sports up to 30 hours battery life. The Sony WH-XB700 headphones bring together all the best bits from the previous generations, as well as new improvements including better vocal clarity.

Weighing in at 195 grams, these WH-XB700 headphones feature swivel ear cups that can be folded flat for easy portability. Accessories include a USB-C cable and an audio cable.

The headphones sport an upgraded quick charge function. With just a 10-minute charge, they can provide one and a half hours of playback.  When fully charged, the batteries will provide up to 30 hours of music goodness.

They headphones also include built-in compatibility with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which means users can have a hands-free and voice controlled experience.

“Just tap the custom button (located on the left ear housing) and ask your preferred voice assistant to play favourite tracks and more,” Sony says.

Users do need to Install the Google Assistant app and change the assignment of custom button with Sony | Headphones Connect app, then press and hold the CUSTOM button.  For Amazon Alexa install the Amazon Alexa app and change the assignment of custom button with Sony | Headphones Connect app, then just press the custom button to launch.

The Sony | Headphones Connect app also enables customisation of CLEAR BASS, Surround (VPT) and Sound Position Control. The WH-XB700 headphones will be available in black and blue from April 2019.  In Australia they will retail for around $249.95 – New Zealand pricing has not been specified.
