Sony news ahoy

Firstly, Sony is attempting to entice existing PSP owners to upgrade to the PSPgo with an incentive programme offering them three free game downloads from the PlayStation Network.

Since the PSPgo is a digital-download-based platform, it does not allow users to play the Universal Media Disc format that PSP games historically came on. This renders an existing user’s library of UMD games unplayable on the PSPgo, so the incentive allows an upgrading user to transfer three games to the digital format.

In order to redeem the three free game downloads, users must activate their new or existing PlayStation Network account on both their new PSPgo and existing PSP. They must then insert a UMD into the PSP, after which they’ll be prompted to register for PSPgo Rewards on the PSPgo. After then downloading a PSPgo theme, users will be emailed a voucher for their three free games from the following 17:

Killzone Liberation

WipEout Pure

Buzz! Brain Bender

Buzz! Master Quiz

SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals: Fireteam Bravo

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters

Everybody’s Golf

Resistance: Retribution

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror

Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow

Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice

In other PlayStation news, Sony has confirmed that the 250GB PS3 is indeed coming to New Zealand, and will be available in a bundle for $729.95 from October 15 with one of the following titles:

SingStar Motown

UNCHARTED 2: Among Theives

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Finally, global sales figures for the PS3 since the September 1 launch of the PS3 Slim and the coinciding price cut of the original model reached 1 million in the first three weeks.
