Thu, 8th Dec 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Sony has announced today that over 50 million units of the PS4 console have been sold worldwide since its launch three years ago.  The 50 million number is units sold to customers and not retailers. The figure was updated as of December 6th, 2016. The number is sure to grow as we head into Christmas.  Sony also said that it had the best Black Friday ever for the PS4 console. Units include sales for the normal console, the Slim as well as the recently released Pro.  Hardware sales are not the only thing that's impressive. Software sales for the console are now at 369.6 million copies. This number includes retail and digital copies.  We're truly delighted that the PS4 community continues to flourish since launch three years ago.” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “With tremendous support from our fans and partners across the globe, this year we were able to deliver an unprecedented lineup of hardware such as the new slimmer PS4, PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR. We will continue to provide the best gaming experiences available through our ground-breaking software lineup and network services, as we focus on accelerating our business and expanding the PS4 ecosystem".  The PS4 console is sure to become more popular in 2017. Upcoming releases in 2017 include Horizon: Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, Resident Evil 7 and more.
