Namco Bandai has announced Soulcalibur V for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.

The next entry popular, weapon-based 3D fighting series from the same publisher that brought you Tekken has been revealed in a new teaser trailer. From the trailer, it seems that series mainstays like Sophitia and Siegfried will make a return.

A few further details have surfaced, though; reportedly, Soulcalibur V takes place 17 years after its predecessor, with a new character by the name of Patroklos, the son of Sophitia, starring as the main protagonist.

"The 'Soulcalibur' series continues to be one of Namco Bandai Games' most cherished franchises," said Carlson Choi, Namco Bandai's vice president of marketing. "Soulcalibur V will continue to advance the series' legacy of white-knuckled, weapon-based combat, gorgeous graphics and ground-breaking features that will amaze newcomers and long-time fans alike."
