South Korean authorities have taken exception to Google’s Street View project, raiding Google’s offices yesterday on suspicion of illegally collecting citizen’s personal information.

Google confirmed that South Korean authorities had visited their offices, and said that they would be cooperating with any investigation. Detectives seized computers and hard drives in the raid and indicated that company officials are likely to be questioned.

The raids come after months of intense criticism over Google’s Street View project, after it was revealed that Street View vehicles were collecting private data, including emails and passwords, over unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

Google has already admitted that a privacy breach had occurred during the operation of its Street View, which collects images and information used to create panoramic maps of city streets.
